Luther defeats buena Vista - Head Coach Brian Gillogly records 500th career victory

Luther kept its hopes alive to capture the Iowa Conference championship with a 7-5 victory over Buena Vista University here in Decorah. The Norse pounded out 12 hits and scored four runs in the second inning that proved to be the difference in the game.

Chris Reynolds had a huge afternoon going 3-for-4 and driving in four runs. Reynolds drove in two in the second, one in the fourth and one in the eighth. Zack Topping, Ben Schott and Joe Thompson all tallied two hits. Schott and Thompson were also credited with an rbi.

Cody Hyland (6-0) remained unbeaten on the mound throwing seven strong innings. Hyland gave up four runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out five. Adam Kohls pitched the final two inning en route to his first save of the season.

The win gives the Norse an Iowa Conference mark of 12-7, 24-11 overall. Buena Vista falls to 12-8 in league play, 25-10 overall.

The victory was also Head Coach Brian Gillogly's 500th career win. Coach Gillogly, who led the Norse to the 2007 Iowa Conference championship, has averaged 20-plus wins a season during his seven-plus years at the helm of the Norse program. After today's victory his career record is 500-320-2 during his 20 years as a head coach.

The Norse will wrap up the Iowa Conference schedule with a three-game series with the University of Dubuque this Friday and Saturday, May 1-2. Friday's nine inning game will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, the seven inning double header will begin at 1:00 p.m.
