Norse wrap up sprint trip to arizona - split with the University of chicago

Luther wrapped up its spring trip to Phoenix, Arizona splitting a double header with the University of Chicago. The Norse won game one 9-5 and lost a heart breaker 12-11 in the night cap.
After falling behind 4-0 in the top half of the first inning, the Norse exploded for eight runs on eight hits in the bottom half of the frame. At one point the Norse tallied seven consecutive hits.
Zach Topping was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Nate Neis was 2-for-4, while Joe Thompson and Alex Thomas were both 1-for-3 with two rbi.
Cody Hyland picked up his second win of the year. Hyland spread nine hits over six innings, walked four and struck out four.
In game two, Luther jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the top of the first. Chicago replied with an eight-run second and three-run fifth, to take an 11-6 lead into the final two innings. The Norse tied the game at 11-11 after scoring three in the sixth and two in the seventh. Chicago won the game on a two-out single, posting the 12-11 victory.
Neis, Thomas and Ben Schott each drove in two runs. Thomas was 2-for-4 that included his first double of the season. Topping continued to swing a hot bat going 3-for-3 with an rbi. Topping concluded his spring trip batting a team best .563.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 8-4 as it heads into Iowa Conference action this weekend. The Norse are scheduled to play at Cornell College on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28.
