Luther wins conference opener - defeats cornell 17-8

Luther kicked-off the Iowa Conference schedule with an impressive 17-8 victory over Cornell College this evening in Mount Vernon. The Norse pounded out 12 hits and scored multiple runs in four of the nine innings of action, including five in the fifth and six in the sixth.
Chris Reynolds led the Norse attack with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate driving in a team high four rbi. Ben Schott, Zach Topping and Steve Beckman tallied two hits each. Schott drove in three runs and Topping knocked in two. Jake Waddle also drove in two runs and was 1-for-3.
Nate Todd picked up his third win of the season. Todd pitched seven innings, allowed one earned run on eight hits, walked two and struck out two. Paul Pichelman threw the final two innings striking out three of the 11 batters her faced.
The Norse and Rams will resume this weekend series on Sunday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Mount Vernon. These two games were originally scheduled for tomorrow but have been postponed due to the forecast of inclement weather.
