Norse Swing Hot Bats - Sweep Pipers

Luther pounded out 27 hits during its twin bill sweep of Hamline University this afternoon in Phoenix Arizona. The Norse recorded six runs on 12 hits en route to a 6-1 victory in game one, and tallied 13 runs on 15 hits in their 13-1 victory in game two.
Zach Topping, Chris Reynolds and Steve Beckman were all 2-for-3 leading the Norse offensive attack in game one. Nate Neis started the game from his lead-off slot with a home run over the center field fence.
The Norse scored five unanswered runs before Hamline knocked in a run off Norse starting pitcher Cody Hyland in the top of the sixth frame. Hyland spread seven hits during his six innings of work, striking out nine and walking two.
Head Coach Brian Gillogly used 19 different players as the Norse routed the Pipers 13-1 in the night cap. Ben Schott and Topping both drove in three runs, while Neis and Beckman were credited with two rbi.
Jeff Riddle pitched six solid innings en route to his first win of the year. Riddle allowed just three hits, struck out three and walked four.
Luther is now 4-2 and will return to action tomorrow when they will face Gustavus Adolphus College. This double header is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
