Luther defeats coe 3-2 in first game of iiac tournament

Luther, the #2 seed of the Iowa Conference Tournament, advanced to the semifinals defeating #3 Coe College 3-2 this evening in Cedar Rapids. Wartburg College is hosting the league's six-team tournament at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium & Daniels Park.

The Norse jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a little help from a couple of Kohawk errors. Coe tied the game scoring a run in the fourth and sixth innings. Ben Schott hit the game winner in the bottom of the seventh, a single to right field that scored Mark Weber, who started the inning with a walk.

Adam Kohls (8-3) pitched seven strong innings en route to the victory. Kohls allowed two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four. Nate Todd was credited with the save retiring the final six Coe batters.

The Norse will return to action tomorrow when they will face the winner of #1 Loras vs. #4 Wartburg that started at 9:00 p.m. this evening. Fans can catch all the action via audio stream beginning at 4:00 p.m. weather permitting.
