Luther posts 20th win of the season - sweeps Martin Luther 8-0, 17-3

Luther pounded out 29 hits and scored 25 runs as it swept the visiting Knights of Martin Luther College by scores of 8-0 and 17-3 this afternoon. The two wins gives the Norse an overall record of 20-9 and marks the fourth time in the past six years the Norse have tallied at least 20 wins in a season.
Greg Siems (1-1) picked up the win in game one throwing a five-hit complete game shutout. Siems faced 24 batters, did not give up a walk and struck out eight.
Multiple hits were produced by Nate Neis, Zack Topping, Dan Genrich and Alex Thomas. Paul Ryan hit a three-run home run in the five-run second inning.
Martin Luther's Andrew Schoenfeld hit a three-run home run in the first frame giving the Knights and early lead in game two. Luther replied scoring 17 unanswered runs en route to the nightcap victory.The Norse proceeded to score two runs in the first, seven in the fourth, six in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Topping, who finished the afternoon 3-for-5, hit a three-run home run in the fourth. Matt Bruhn, Jake Waddle and Neis also tallied three rbi each. Neis was a perfect 6-for-6 for the afternoon that included two doubles and a triple.
Eric Nordstrom (1-1) pitched six solid innings picking up the win. Nordstrom allowed five hits, walked four and struck out six. Darin Schneider pitched the final inning and struck out three of the four batters her faced.
The Norse return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 21 when they will travel to Buena Vista University. This Iowa Conference double header will begin at 3:30 p.m.
