Norse Sweep Series with simpson

Luther moved into second place in the Iowa Conference standings after sweeping today's double header with Simpson and the three-game weekend series. The Norse pounded out 23 hits and committed just one error en route to victories of 6-3 and 7-3 this afternoon here in Decorah.

Luther broke open game one with a four-run, three-hit fifth, that gave the Norse a 6-2 lead. Steve Beckman drove in two runs with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate. Nate Neis and Chris Reynolds were both 2-for-4, while Ben Schott was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Reynolds and Darin Schneider, who was 1-for-3, were both credited with an rbi.

Adam Kohls went the distance on the mound. Kohls spread 10 hits, struck out one and did not give up an walk.

Simpson jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, only to see Luther respond with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Luther added two more in the fourth and one in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the nightcap victory.

Zack Topping had a big game going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs. Mark Weber hit a solo home run to left-center field in the fifth, his first of the year. Neis, Reynolds and Schott were all credited with two hits.

Cody Hyland raised his record to 4-0 with a complete game win. Hyland gave up three earned runs on 11 hits, struck out three and did not walk a batter.

The three wins this weekend raised Luther's overall record to 6-3 in the Iowa Conference, 14-7 overall. Simpson fell to 7-7 in league play, 15-13 overall.
