norse swept by knights fall to 3-3 in the Iowa Conference
April 4, 2009
Wartburg College swept this three-game series with a 14-2 victory over Luther this afternoon in Waverly. The Knights pounded out 10 hits and posted multiple runs on the score board in the second, third and seventh innings. Luther did not help it cause committing a season high six errors.
The first of Luther's runs cam in the top half of the first frame. Jake Waddle drove in Nate Neis with a single up the middle. Neis started the game with a single to the right side of the infield and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Reynolds.
In the sixth, Zach Topping scored on a wild pitch after reaching base safely with a single to center field. Topping advanced to third following a Waddle walk and a ground ball double play.
Adam Kohls was credited with the loss. Kohls threw four innings, allowed five earned runs on five hits, walked six and struck out six.
The loss levels Luther's Iowa Conference record to 3-3, 11-7 overall. The Norse are scheduled to play Martin Luther College tomorrow in Decorah, but the weather forecast of a possible 1-3 inches of snow this evening does not look promising. If the non-conference double header is cancelled or postponed, we will have that information on the athletic web site in the morning.
