Luther two match wins streaks comes to a close as Carleton posts 2-0 win
Sept. 20, 2009
Carleton College scored two goals in the second half defeating Luther 2-0 this afternoon here in Decorah. The loss snapped Luther's two-match win streak.
In a well played match by both clubs, Carleton's Tim Wills knocked in his fourth goal of the season, a header in the upper right corner of the net, off a cross by Wes Elfman at 62:40. Taylor Ward added an insurance goal for the Knights at 83:01, driving a rebound off the post past the Norse defenders.
The Norse placed six shots on goal but could not get one past Jerry McIntyre who posted his first win of the season.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 2-4-1. Carleton is now 4-3-0.
The Norse will be off until next Saturday, Sept. 26, when they will begin Iowa Conference action here at home against the University of Dubuque. Kick-off will follow the women's match at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Both the Dubuque women's and the men's matches will be video streamed weather permitting. Today's match could not be video streamed because the Luther campus was experiencing technical difficulties with its internet system.
