Luther drops conference opener to dubuque 2-1

Despite out shooting the University of Dubuque 17-9 and placing two more shots on goal than the Spartans, Luther was defeated this afternoon 2-1 here in Decorah.

Luther took a 1-0 lead early in the first half thanks to Adam Pyzdrowski's second goal of the season at 12:24. Pyzdrowski was assisted by Michael Kustra.

Dubuque tied the match in the 21st minute when Pablo Martinez scored unassisted. Jake Geiger knocked in the game winner at 54:44, off a corner kick by Ryan Zurbuchen.

The loss was only the second in school history to the Spartans and gives the Norse an overall record of 2-5-1. Dubuque increased its overall mark to 7-1-2. This was the conference opener for both teams.

Luther will return to action one week from today when it will travel to Cornell College for a match that will begin at 3:00 p.m.
