luther sweeps dubuque Christian hits two home runs

Nationally ranked #17 Luther rolled to a couple of Iowa Conference victories over the University of Dubuque this afternoon here in Decorah. The Norse posted a 9-0 victory in five innings in game one and 7-0 victory in game two. The two wins raised the Norse league record to 3-1, 18-2 overall.

Abby Christian hit two home runs in game one, including one that bounced off the scoreboard in right center field. Christian hit a three-run blast over the right field fence in the first and a lead-off solo shot in the third. Her home runs were her second and third of the season.

Tiffany Kruse and Kelsey Hake drove in two runs each. Kruse was 3-for-3 at the plate while Hake was 1-for-3.

BreAnn VanDeer picked up her ninth win of the year. VanDeer pitched four full innings and only allowed one hit to the 13 batters she faced. Kristie Wimmer struck out all three of the batter she faced in the top of the fifth.

The Norse drove in seven runs on 11 hits en route to double header sweep. Christian and Lauran Snyder were both 2-for-2, while lead-off hitter Anna Simonson was 3-for-4. Simonson's final hit of the afternoon was a lead-off home run, the first of her career, over the right field fence in the fourth. Jackie Miller tallied two rbi with a single through the left side in the third.

Kim Lambert was credited with the victory, her fourth of the year. Lambert allowed just three hits and struck out eight. Ashlie Patten pitched the final three innings and fanned eight of the 12 batters she faced.

Luther will return to Iowa Conference action on Tuesday, April 7 when it will host Simpson College. First pitch is slated to be tossed at 3:00 p.m. Both games will also be video streamed by the Luther College sports information department.
