Luther Swept by Coe - 11-Game Win Streak Snapped
April 15, 2009
The same day Luther moved from #13 to #4 in the nationally rankings, it had its 11-game win streak snapped after being swept by Coe College 8-0 (5) and 4-0 this afternoon here in Deorah. The two losses drops Luther to 7-3 in the Iowa Conference 24-4 overall. Coe is now 8-2 in league play, 26-8 overall.
The Norse managed just four hits, two in each game, against two of the top pitchers in the Iowa Conference, Ashlee Simon and Sonja Schwenker.
In game one, Coe jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first and then moved to 4-0 following a two-run home run in the second. The Kohawks added four more runs on four hits in the fourth, including another two-run blast. Kim Hess and Danielle Armbruster were the only Norse to produce hits. Armbruster's was her ninth double of the season and leads the team in this category.
Anna Simonson and Lauran Snyder each hit a single and were the only Norse batters to reach base in the nightcap. Coe scored once in the second and fifth and added two more in the seventh.
Luther returns to action tomorrow when it will travel to Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wis. for a double header that will begin at 3:00 p.m.
