Luther sweeps cornell - remains atop iowa conference standings

Nationally ranked #13 Luther ran its win streak to nine in a row after sweeping Cornell College 5-2 and 12-3 this afternoon in Mount Vernon.

The Norse scored a run in five of the seven innings thanks to the combination of seven hits and four Ram errors. Cornell's two runs came on a two-run home run in the fifth.

Anna Simonson was 2-for-4 and tallied the only multiple hit performance of the game. Tiffany Kruse, Kelsey Hake, Abby Christian and Lauran Snyder all drove in one run. BreAnn VanDeer went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.

Kim Hess tallied one hit and is now tied for the school record for career hits with Erin Michael '07 with 176.

The Norse exploded for seven runs on seven hits in the seventh, turning a 5-3 ball game into a blow out. Danielle Armbruster provided most of the fire power going 4-for-5 at the plate and driving in three runs. Christian added two rbi thanks to a 2-for-5 performance. Hake was 3-for-5 with an rbi and Snyder was 2-for-2 with an rbi. Kim Lambert was credited with the win, allowing three hits, walking six and striking out eight.

The two wins keeps the Norse atop the Iowa Conference standings with a record of 7-1, 22-2. Cornell fell to 3-5 in league play, 14-12 overall.

Luther returns to action on Monday, April 13 when it will travel to UW-Eau Claire for a 4:00 p.m. double header. The Norse return home on Wednesday, April 15 to host Coe College at 3:00 p.m.
