#4 Luther defeats #5 Simpson 7-5

#4 Luther advanced to the play #1 seed Central College this afternoon in the first day of action at the Iowa Conference Tournament after defeating #5 Simpson College 7-5.
The Norse jumped out to a 7-1 lead after five innings and hung on to win after Simpson scored four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh. The Norse produced three runs in the third and four in the fifth on eight hits and a bit of help from the Storm who committed four errors.
Kelsey Hake drove in three runs with a 2-for-4 performance. Hake hit a single that drove in two runs in the third and a double to center field in the fifth that scored Kim Hess who reached base on an error. Abby Christian also drove in two runs in this frame with her only hit of the game, a single down the left field line.
BreAnn VanDeer (16-4) pitched seven innings en route to the victory. VanDeer allowed four earned runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out seven.
The win gives the Norse an overall record of 31-7, while Simpson falls to 26-16.
