Luther wraps up trip to Tucson, Arizona - sweeps St. olaf 17-2, 9-1

Luther wrapped up its annual spring trip to Tucson, Arizona with a sweeping St. Olaf College this afternoon. The Norse defeated the Oles 17-2 and 9-1 with both games concluding after five innings. Luther has now won nine in a row and has an overall record of 13-1.
In game one, the Norse tallied 16 hits and got a little help from the Oles as they committed four errors. Kim Hess had a big game going 5-for-5 and driving in three runs with an inside the park home run in the top of the fifth. Tiffany Kruse also drove in three runs, while Anna Simonson, Kelsey Hake and Lauran Snyder each drove in two.
BreAnn VanDeer recorded her seventh win of the season and is now 7-0. She gave up just one earned run on three hits and walked one. Kristie Wimmer pitched the final two innings. Wimmer allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two.
It was the Kelsey Hake show in game two as she not only picked up the win in the circle, but also helped her cause by driving in two runs. Hake, who tallied her third win of the year, struck out nine of the 18 batters she faced. She was also 2-for-2 at the plate driving in a run in the first with a triple and another in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Luther returns home after a very successful spring trip. The Norse, ranked #6 in the nation, posted a record of 9-1, losing only to Gustavus Adolphus 9-5, that was the second game of the 10-game Tucson Invitational schedule.
Iowa Conference play will begin on Wednesday, April 1 when the Norse will travel to Central College for a double header that is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
