For the third year in a row Luther has posted a 30-win season. This afternoon the Norse split with the Eagles from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 8-3 and 1-9. The victory gives the Norse an overall record of 30-6. Last year, Luther tallied a mark of 30-12 and in 2007 set a school record for wins in a single season posting a record of 35-7.

Luther scored eight runs on 12 hits in game one. Kayla Denner gave the Norse a 3-0 lead in the second with her first home run of the season, a three-run shot over the left field fence. The very next inning Kelsey Hake hit a two-run home run that bounced off the foul pole down the left field line. The Norse added two more runs in the fourth and one in the sixth en route to the victory. Hake had a big game going 3-for-4 with four rbi. Kim Hess, Danielle Armbruster and Abby Christian were all credited with two hits each. BreAnn VanDeer (15-3) went the distance in the circle striking out 10 and spreading eight hits.

Things did not go as well for the Norse in game two as La Crosse took an early lead and never trailed in the nightcap. La Crosse pounded out 12 hits and scored multiple runs in three of the seven innings.

Jackie Miller and Denner provided four of Luther's six hits, both going 2-for-3 at the plate. Luther's lone run came in the bottom of the second when Tiffany Kruse hit a lead-off, solo home run to left field, her eighth of the year.

Box score

Luther (10-4) will wrap up its Iowa Conference schedule this Saturday when it will host Wartburg College (11-3) at 2:00 p.m. The Norse will only be able to play a spoiler role and battle for position for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament, as Central (13-3) completed its schedule with a sweep of Loras College this afternoon and clinched at least a share of the regular season title.
