Knutson Crowned IIAC Pole Vault Champion - Norse Finish 5th

Freshman Liz Knutson was crowned the 2009 pole vault champion at the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships. Wartburg College is hosting the 2009 championships Feb. 27-28.
Knutson, who was the only Luther competitor to earn all-conference honors during the first day of competition, won the pole vault title by a full six inches. She cleared the bar with a winning height of 9-6 1/4, that was also a personal best by 3 1/4 inches. Bridget McQuillan of Loras College and Corie Peterson of Simpson College tied for second at 9-0 1/4.
Katie Dolan earned all-conference honors for the first time of her indoor career in the 3,000 meter run. Dolan, who was the only Luther athlete to place in the top-three in any of the events during the second day of competition, finished third with a time of 10:42.45. Mary Bridget Corker of Loras College won the individual title clocked at 10:31.90. Rachelle Hawkins of Cornell was second with a time of 10:33.81.
The Norse wrapped up the two-day Iowa Conference Indoor Championships in fifth place with a point total of 63 points. Wartburg breezed to the team championship with a record 276 points. Loras was a distant second at 112, followed by Simpson with 84.
