Luther Second at Meet of Hearts

Luther posted a team total of 134 points and finished second at the Meet of Hearts Invitational hosted by Carleton College. Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with 178 points, while Carleton was third with 96.
Dani Meirick and Katie Dolan recorded individual first place finishes. Meirick won the 200 meter dash by almost a full two seconds. Meirick was clocked at 2:21.68 finishing ahead of runner-up Kameron Argiannis of Hamline University with a time of 2:23.40.
Dolan led a sweep of the top five spots by Luther runners in the 3,000 meter run. Dolan crossed the finish line at 10:41.86. She was followed by teammates Rachel Wobeter, Anna Wikan, Elise Bennett and Becky Eckerman.
The Norse also dominated the mile run. Taylor Ffitch of Carleton own the event with a time of 5:18.60. The next four runners to cross the finish line were Luther teammates Sarah Lundine, Flannery Cerbin, Lisa Wegman and Annie McKay.
Luther also picked up first place points in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 meter relays. The 4 x 200 foursome of Magie Darling, Teresa Procter, Emily Cory and Lindsey Weaver was clocked at 1:50.54, just edging the Gustavus squad clocked at 1:50.73. The 4 x 400 team of Weaver, Cory, Darling and Lydia Huinker cruised to a six second victory, posting a winning time of 4:10.32.
The Norse will travel to the University of Dubuque on Saturday, Feb. 21 for the final tune-up before the Iowa Conference Championships that will be held Feb. 27-28. The Dubuque meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wartburg College is hosting this year's indoor track and field championships.
