Four Norse Recognized on All-Conference Team

The Iowa Conference released its all-conference volleyball team today and four Luther players were listed among the 24 members of the 2008 team.

Senior co-captain Ally Czechowicz and junior libero Anna Simonson were listed on the second team, while freshmen Emily Cory and Taylor Skoglund were named honorable mention.

Czechowicz led the Iowa Conference for blocks per set. She tallied 28 total blocks for an average of 1.03 per set. She completed the regular season leading the Norse in this same category with a total of 98. Her career total of 350 blocks ranks tenth all-time.

Anna Simonson

Simonson recorded 155 digs in 31 sets, leading the IIAC with an average of 5.0 per set. Her total dig count at the conclusion of the regular season was 598, increasing her career total to 953, that ranks second all-time on Luther's libero career list.

Emily Cory

Cory finished the Iowa Conference regular season schedule ranked 9th in kills per set, while Skoglund was ranked 9th in attack percentage. Cory, who led the Norse with 409 kills, averaged 2.87 per set in league play. Skoglund finished the regular season with 263 kills, posting an attack percentage of .279.

The Norse resume play this afternoon at the Iowa Conference Tournament hosted by Loras College. Luther finished the IIAC schedule with a record of 4-4, finishing in a tie for fourth place. The Norse are making their first appearance in the league tournament since is went to a six-team format in 2001. Luther's overall mark of 18-14 is its best under the direction of second-year head coach Jane Gibbs and also its best mark since 2001.
